Artist's Biography

Born in Northwood, Middlesex in 1911. Studied at the Slade School of Fine Art in 1929-31 under Henry Tonks. During the 1930\'s studied for periods in Paris, part of the time with Roger Bissiere at Academie Ranson. Held his first one man show at Bloomsbury Gallery in 1936. Took part in numerous group shows in Britain and abroad, winning first prize at John Moores Liverpool Exhibition in 1963. Retrospective exhibition at ICA in 1958. Similarly important show included Serpentine Gallery in 1974; Graves Art Gallery; Leicester Polytechnic Gallery in 1984-85, Tate Gallery, St.Ives in 1997-98. Arts Council holds examples of his work.
