Artist's Biography

David studied at Ipswich School of Art, Brighton Polytechnic and the Slade School of Fine Art where he studied Sculpture.

During his early career he worked firstly as a photographer in Rome after which he was invited to be Visiting Artist and then Art Master at Harrow School.  For many years until recently he was Head of Fine Art at the University of Suffolk.

Trained originally as a sculptor, David makes work in a range of media. He is currently engaged in the production of a series of short animations derived from the possibility of drawing as a spontaneous yet sustained process; not necessarily reliant on the depiction of object or need for subject.

He has worked for the Arts Council, the QAA and the Czech Government as well as being External Examiner for the University of Gloucester. In 2017 he became the first Director of the Aldeburgh Arts Academy. In 2018 he will be visiting the Universities of Duhok and Erbil in Iraq to establish dialogue and exchanges with Kurdish artists.

David has been Commissioning Agent for a number of major public art installations and has curated several ambitious exhibitions as well as initiating residency programmes.
